Amid the Scraps

Soundscape and Film, stereo or 5.1 surround sound, 18m 51s

A soundscape recorded from inside a domestic urban compost bin. Through intimate clicks, wet hisses and thick floppy tongue-like sounds, the sonic field of isopods, arthropods, slugs, emerge underneath the lifted lid of a plastic compost bin. Rain beats, snow crusts, footsteps of the recordist retreat, a rooftop is fixed, muffled sirens howl and music from sun-dyed daytime-lockdown parties’ pulse - temporalities merge. Within the darkness, lifespans and scales of co-existence are in the processes of decay and renewal, complex webs of engineering fuelled by scraps – food waste remnants, grown across multiple tides and flown through jet filled steams to grace a plate long gone.
